Obit: M. S. Snyder died at her home on Orner street at 5 o'clock yesterday...Her prayer to go and live with Jesus had been answered. While children, Frank and Lucile Snyderwill miss her as a good, kind...mother, we trust all Carthage will share their loss of mother. The service ill be held at the Congregational church Friday, August 11, at... Friends of the family... .

Mary immigrated with her parents from Switzerland and for a while the family lived in Cohoes, NY. Mary died at her home at 427 Orner Street in Carthage, MO, at 5:00 AM, from heart disease. She is buried at Park Cemetery in Carthage. There was no marker for her grave. One was placed there in the year 2000. Services were held at the Congregational church Friday, Aug. 11, 1899. The obituary for her sister, Anna, found at Neosho Library states her "parents and family were among the first citizens of Neosho, as far as known..." Her will can be found in Jasper Co., MO, Box 83, File 1881. She wrote stories for Sunday School as well as for herself. An excerpt from a diary she started in 1863 will be found herein.
