THE HENRY BULLETIN, Martinsville, Va., Fri., June 8, 1934, p. 2, col. 4 [edited]. Mrs. Susan Martin Hopkins of the Pleasant Grove community passed away May 24, 1934 at the age of 89 years and 10 months. Her husband preceded her to the grave 24 years ago. She leaves to mourn her loss four daughters and four sons: Mrs. Jack Earles of Narrows, Va.., Mrs. J. T. Gilley, Preston, Mrs. Queen Oliver of Bassett, Mrs. Walter Joyce of Bassett, Mr. W. G. Hopkins of Bassett, Mr. Peter Hopkins of Preston and Mr. George Hopkins of Bassett and a host of grand children and great grand children. She was a faithful and loyal member of the Old Center Baptist Church where her remain were laid to rest.
We cannot say and we will not say, That she is dead; She is just away. Written by her devoted granddaughters, Ada and Ida.
