Ernest Guy Brown

Ernest Guy Brown, son of William and Mary L. Brown. was born in Ringgold County, Iowa, February 19, 1896, where he grew to manhood.

He was one of a family of seven children, five sons and two daughters. Those surviving him are: Edward, Clarence, Clara (Baker) and Lloyd. Also surviving is his father of Lafayette, Oregon. His mother and sister, Mrs. Beulah Brumbaugh preceded him in death.

Mr. Brown was united in marriage to Miss Josephine Stiles of Knowlton, Iowa, July 4, 1915. To this union were born eight children, four sons and four daughters, Louis, Robert, Elsie and Ernestine, at home in Hastings, Nebraska, Floyd and Gene of Edgar, Nebraska, Mrs. Harry Waggoner and Mrs. Cecil Sharp of Hastings. Nebraska. Also surviving him are four grandchildren, Wilbergene and Harold Brown, Barbara Kay Waggoner and Calvin Sharp, other relatives and a host of friends.

Mr. Brown came to Edgar in 1923 where he was employed for the C. B. & Q. Railroad until his health failed. They moved to Hastings in the fall of 1945 and for several months Mr. Brown was employed at the U. S. Naval Depot.

He was taken sick and entered the Mary Lanning Hospital in Hastings where he passed away Saturday November 16, 1946, at the age of 50 years, eight months and 24 days.

He held his church membership in the Christian Church in Grand River, Iowa.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, November 19, 1946, from the Christian Church in Edgar, Nebraska, conducted by the Rev. W. W. Hull. Mrs. Walter Jacobsen and Mrs. F. W. Hockman sang "Abide With Me," "Does Jesus Care" and "No Dark Valley," accompanied by Mrs. L. E. Hunter at the piano.

Pallbearers were Wade Babers, Newt Gunn, C. W. Harpster, Harvey Elye, Harold White and M. P. Bogich.

Interment was in the Edgar Cemetery.

Those from out-of-town attending the funeral of Ernest G. Brown were: Mr. and Mrs. Lee Davenport and Nola Simpson of Diagonal, Iowa Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Brown and Millard of Murry, Iowa and Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Conklin of Harvard.
