Richland, Aug. 14 - Edward Smaltz, a retired farmer, aged 82 years, was found dead at 8 a.m. today on a side street here. He had been ill from heart trouble for some time. Daniel Snook discovered the body. Besides the widow the survivors follow: Sisters, Mrs. Mira Shirk, this place, and Mrs. Benneville Benetch, Millardsville; a brother, James, Myerstown, and these children, Mrs. George Peiffer, Mrs. William Rauch, Henry, Adam and Monroe, this place, and Edward, Palmyra. Deceased was a resident of this community for 45 years. He was a member of the Tulpehocken Reformed congregation and the P. O. S. of A. [Reading Eagle, Aug. 14, 1917, page 4]
