Frank Kilmer, a well-to-do farmer in Millcreek township, one-half mile north of Sheridan Saturday committed suicide by hanging. His lifeless body was found at an early hour by his tenant farmer, hanging by a rope to a hay ladder wagon in the barn. All efforts at resuscitation were unavailing, as the spark of life had already flown from its house of clay. A physician, who was hurriedly summoned, pronounced death to have been caused by suffocation, and said the deed had been accomplished but a short time before the body was discovered. Kilmer was 60 years old and lived with his tenant farmer. He was of a cheerful, and at times jovial disposition, and no cause can be assigned for the act. His wife survives him. Kilmer was a sailor during the War of the Rebellion and spent five years in the navy. He was a member of the Reformed congregation, worshipping at Tulpehocken, and also a member of Capt. A Brother, who formerly resided here, some time ago, committed suicide by taking poison. Frank Kilmer was found suspended by a rope from the ladder of a hay wagon by Daniel Bubb, tenant on his farm. Dr. William Kilmer, who formerly practiced dentistry at this place, but who now resides in Reading, is a brother of the unfortunate man. Mrs. Samuel Seibert, residing near Stouchsburg, is a sister.
