He was born March 6, 1919, in South Dakota. Mr. Alton had worked for and retired from the Oilman Press. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U. S. Army.
Surviving are his wife, Jola; three step-children, Mrs. Ronald (Delores) Berge, of Deerfield, William (Penny) Melvin of Rio, and Mrs. William (Judy) Strutt, of Brooklyn; two brothers, Vernon Alton, of Sundance Wyoming; and Alton Graf, of New Salem, North Dakota; two sisters, Verona Cline, of Greendale, Wisconsin, and Ms. Denny Alton of Hot Springs, South Dakota; and many other relatives including Tammie Melvin, of Madison. He was preceded in death by a step-son, Harold Melvin; his sister, Maxine Gay; and a brother, Verlane Alton.
Funeral services will be held at the BOOTH-GUNDERSON FUNERAL HOME, 431 Soden Drive, Oregon, at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 15,1986, with Father A. J. Schumacher officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Hearts Cemetery, Sun Prairie. Friends may call from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Friday at the Oregon funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the U. W. Hospitals Lung Disease Research Memorial Fund, 600 Highland Avenue, Madison 53706.
