Pearl Marrs married Dewey Milligan in 1922. Dewey was using Milligan as the spelling of his last name at that time and is on the marriage license. The rest of his family, father Calvin Millican and brothers were spelling it Millican with a c. My grandmother Pearl Milligan always spelled the last name with a g. The first four children Vertis, Ray, Eldon & Jewell decided to spell it Millican to go along with their grandfather, uncles and cousins. The younger eight children kept the spelling as Milligan. My grandmother Pearl divorced my grandfather Dewey in the 1950's. Dewey later remarried and then spelled his last name Millican. He is buried with the name Dewey Wade Millican. Also on the recorded marriage of Pearl & Dewey it states Morris as my grandmother Pearl's maiden name. Her maiden name is Marrs. If you look at her signature on the document you can see that she signed it Pearl Marrs. Her death certificate states her true maiden name. Name confusion all the way around! As far as I know Dewey never explained why he used the spelling of Milligan instead of Millican at the time he married my grandmother.
