Sherwood Terry Avery, 86, passed on Sunday, August 29, 2010, in Carrollton, Texas. He was a long-time resident of Dallas, Texas. Terry was born on Monday, June 9, 1924, in Argentina, to Sherwood Hamilton Avery and Annie Sue Terry Avery. Terry enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps and trained to be a pilot at Hicks Field in Fort Worth, Texas, instructed by B.B. Nelms in Class 44-D under the 307th Army Air Forces Flying Training Detachment. He served in World War II as a Second Lieutenant with the 449th Bombardment Group, 717th Squadron. He also served in Korea and Viet Nam, and retired as a major in the U.S. Air Force. MAJ Avery was awarded the Bronze Star Medal (BSM). He had three children – one daughter and two son's
