Mr. and Mrs. William E. Anderson, route 4, Glendaie acres, have been notified by the war department that their son, Pvt. William R. Anderson, died of wounds received in Italy on May 28. A previous telegram stated that Pvt. Anderson had been "slightly wounded.".
Pvt. Anderson was inducted In July, 1943, receiving his infantry basic training at Camp Fannin, Texas. He was awarded the sharpshooters medal, B. A. R. pin, and machine gun medal while in camp. He was sent overseas in March 1944 where he was stationed first in Sicily and later in Italy.
Born in Council Bluffs, Pvt. Anderson had lived in or near the city al! his life. He was a graduate of Thomas Jefferson high school.
