Wallie and his father before him were fishermen out of Fisherman's Beach in Swampscott. They had a fishing shack alongside many others at the beach. In spite of the protests of the fishermen, the town took these fishing shacks, paying the owners a dollar each, and claimed them through eminent domain in order to free up the beach for the tourists who frequented the large hotels that were in the area at the time. They built in their place the current Fish House, giving each man a spot within it. Wallie's fishing shack was right where you see the cannon on the beach today.
