Ella Mae Cannon, age 88 of Joplin,MO passed away at 9:05 a.m. Monday, March 10, 2003 at her home.

Born May 3, 1914 in Joplin,MO she was the daughter of the late Ben and Susie Barker Butts and was a lifetime Joplin resident. A homemaker and mother, she was a member of Blendville Christian Church, where she was a former church clerk, Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher and a member of Gooodwill Sunday School class. She was also active at Joplin Senior Citizens' Center and was a volunteer at Freeman Hospital.

On Oct. 15, 1940 she married Darold M. Cannon in Joplin. He survives.

Additional survivors include a daughter, Dana Hughey of Joplin; three granddaughters, Suzie Hoskins and her husband Mike of Kansas City, Mo., Sandi Hughey and Terrla Hughey, both of Joplin; a nephew, Earl Smith of Boulder, Colo.; a niece, Marian Stinson of Denver, Colo.; and a sister and brother-in-law, Gerry and Leo Wright of Hot Springs Village, Ark.

She was preceded in death in 1991 by her son-in-law, Jerry Hughey.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Blendville Christian Church with Larry Richardson and Bob Teegarden, ministers, officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Parker Mortuary.
