Colonel, US Army. The 7th and last child of General George Nelson Morgan and Delia Elizabeth Warner.

He was born at Fort Snelling, Minneapolis, Minnesota, and named for his father's tentmate, General Alfred Sully, in the 1st Minnesota Volunteer Infantry during the Civil War. His father died when Alfred was less than a year old, and was raised by his mother, who remained the rest of her life in Minneapolis. Joining the Army, he was a veteran of the Indian Wars, Spanish-American War, and World War I. On 6 July 1905, he married the former Margaret Crawford; they had no surviving children. He had a varied and interesting career in the Army: participating in the siezure of Manila during the Spanish American War while commanding Company L, 2nd Battalion, 13th Minnesota Volunteer Infantry, and later participating in the Philippine Insurrection as well as World War I. He also served in the Coast Artillery Corps.
