Barbara Ann Bonefeld of Cadillac, Michigan, formerly of Escanaba, Michigan, entered eternal life, following a brief illness, on October 29, 2010 at Mercy Hospital in Cadillac. She was 54 years old.

Barbara was born June 28, 1956 in Escanaba and was the daughter of George and Jeanne (Schrader) Bonefeld, Sr. Barbara graduated from Escanaba High School in 1974 and the from Michigan Technological University in Houghton, Michigan, with a B.S. Degree in Forestry, and then Michigan State University with an M.S. in Forest Genetics in 1981.

Barbara was employed with the U.S. Forest Service for almost 30 years, working in many different locations, mostly in the western United States. She was first employed in forest genetics and later in forest fire management. She was also an instructor for forest fire management. She was currently a Huron-Manistee National Forest Fire Staff Officer.

Barbara Ann Bonefeld is survived by two brothers, Dr. George (Linda) Bonefeld of Marquette, Michigan, and Dr. Robert Bonefeld of Treasurer Island, Florida; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George, Sr. and Jeanne Bonefeld.

Visitation: Thursday November 4, 2010 from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Escanaba.

Barb was the former Incident Commander (IC) of the Fire Use Management Team (FUMT)and EA T2 Incident Management Team (IMT). One of her noteworthy achievements was development of the Mack Lake Staff Ride.
