Mr. Allen Roger Alander, 65, of 403 E. Lincoln Way, LaPorte, died Thursday, June 10, 2004, at 10:55 a.m. at LaPorte Hospital.
He was born June 14, 1938, in Missoula, Mont., to Gus and Ona (Forsyth) Alander. He lived in the LaPorte area for 40 years, having moved back and forth to California and Florida.
Mr. Alander retired in 1990 after 20 years as a house painter for Walter Oberholtzer Painting. He was a member of Painters Union of South Bend and American legion Post 400 of Fish Lake. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having served during peacetime. He collected pop can tops for the Shriner's Hospital for Crippled Children.
He is survived by two daughters, Christine of LaPorte and Michelle Schroeder of Michigan City; three sons, Patrick (Jennifer), Bryan and Michael, all of LaPorte; four brothers, Robert of San Rafael, Calif., Frank of Coos Bay, Ore., Dalton of Santa Rosa, Calif., and Larry of Forestville, Calif.; two former spouses, Helen Mathes and Beverly, both of LaPorte, four grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
His parents preceded him in death.
A graveside service will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at Salem Cemetery, LaPorte, with Rev. Penelope Brown officiating and American Legion Post 400 conducting a graveside military service. There will be no visitation. Cremation will take place.
Haverstock Funeral Home, LaPorte, is in charge of arrangements.
