The name of Calkins began in Wales. It originated from their profession as caulkers, filling the seams of boats and ships with hot tar and cattail blades.
William Proctor was the grandson of Ransom Calkins and son of Royal Decatur Calkins, Nov.2,1842-Nov.2,1920 and Matilda Lavina Armstrong, Feb 24,1842. Matilda died at age 89.
William married Carrie Paxton on Dec. 24,1897 in Sedan, Kansas
While living in Kansas two children were born to them. Royal Paxton & Ruth. 1904 finds the family moving to N.M. They purchased a homestead near Hope. In 1911 they moved to Weed buying a place in Potato Canyon. Their third child Wayland was born in Potato Canyon. In 1920 the William and Carrie moved to Oklahoma to run a diary farm. They moved from Oklahoma to Montebello, Ca. living there until 1935 when they returned to ranch in Potato Canyon. In their later years they sold the ranch and moved into to the village of Sacramento.
