She was a native of Washington and had lived in the Norfolk area for the past 81 years. She was a daughter of Charles H. and Mrs. Mary V. Birch Newman and widow of Charles E. Rhodes.
She is survived by four daughters, Mrs. L.H. Robertson of Portsmouth, Mrs. M.H. Judd of Norfolk County, Mrs. George Siegrist and Miss Ida Louise Rhodes, both of Norfolk; four sons, Melvin L, Rhodes, George E. Rhodes Sr., F.E. Rhodes and H. L. Rhodes, all of Norfolk; 16 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren.
She was a member of the Armstrong Memorial Presbyterian Church.
The body was taken to the Sykes Funeral Home.
