Norvin was the son of Henry Warren Blanford & Ida Mary Rice. He married Edna Ethel Fulkerson on 8 December 1914 & they had 2 children. Norvin was a miner & carpenter & was employed in building maintenance. About 1928, he jumped in front of a bobsled to rescue a little girl. Norvin saved the little girl from injury but ended up with a broken neck. He had problems with the nerves in his right arm & back the rest of his life. Although Norvin, had several operations, he eventually lost part of the use of his right arm.
