He was born Jan. 9, 1923, near Sugar Grove in Schuyler County, Ill., a son of Charles Perry and Grace Alma Cox Logsdon.
He married Erma Gertrude Mitchell on July 30, 1944, in the Ripley, Ill., Christian Church. They had four daughters and four sons. Erma died May 27, 1976, after 32 years of marriage.
He then married Sara E. Ward Trone, a longtime friend of the family, on Oct. 16, 1976, in Canton Christian Church. She died March 6, 1998, after 21 years of marriage.
Kline retired in 1961 as a chief warrant officer after serving in the U.S. Navy for 21 years. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean War, and was a Pearl Harbor survivor who received a Pearl Harbor Congressional Medal in 1991 to mark the 50th anniversary of this event.
He was a member of Canton Christian Church, where he was an elder emeritus and taught the Loyal Bethany Sunday school class for 10 years. Kline also retired from Culver-Stockton College after 26 years as the director of food service. He served as president of the Council of Churches, chairman of the Republican Central Committee of Lewis County and as a city alderman. He enjoyed traveling, camping, talking politics and woodworking.
Survivors include four daughters, Judith (Francois) Dubois, Port Sainte Marie, France, Karen (Michael) Meyers, Sharpsburg, Ga., Kelly Logsdon, Virginia Beach, Va., and Kimberly (Stanley) Uhlmeyer, Canton; three sons, Patrick Logsdon, Orange Lake, Fla., Steven Logsdon, Hilo, Hawaii, and Mark (Angela) Logsdon, Ashland; and several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wives; one son, Michael Kline Logsdon; one brother, Russell Logsdon; and one sister, Corrine Paisley.
Visitation scheduled 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, Nov 01, 2010 in the funeral home.
Services at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov 02, 2010 in the Davis Funeral Home, Canton, Missouri; Rev. Brent Reynolds conducting.
Burial with military honors will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov 02, 2010 in Ripley Cemetery, Ripley.
