Lena was born in Germany to Peter MEYER and his first wife, Susanna. Her birth name was Wihelmine Pauline MEYER but was called Paulina as a child and then Lena after her marriage until her death. She and John were married 22 May 1873 in Wisconsin.

Lena and John had six known children:
Emma b 1874,
Louise b 1876,
Henry b 1877,
Mary b 1879 (all in Wisconsin),
Sarah b 1881, and
Clara b 1887 (both in Minnesota).

Lena and John are buried with four of their children: Louise, Henry, Mary & Clara (plus Clara's husband). Sarah is with her husband in Wisconsin. Emma is also buried in Oakwood Cemetery.
