Fell asleep in Christ, at Mill Hall, Pa., November 7, 1886, aged 39 years, 5 months, and 5 days, Sister MAGGIE E. BRADY. [She died of typhoid fever.]
The subject of this sketch should have more than a mere passing notice at our hands. Long before our brethren had an organization at Mill Hall, Sister Brady, "having learned the way of the Lord more perfectly," identified herself with the then small band of brethren and sisters at this place (at that time the writer and about five others). Sister Brady was a lady of a sensitive disposition, liberally educated, and loved by all. Sometimes we meet with those who become obedient to the faith and are surrounded by such circumstances as to make it easy to live a godly life. Sister Brady was not one of those exceptions. Few persons there are whose surroundings called for the exercise of more patience, faith, steadfastness, and forbearance than Sister Brady. After the church was established in Mill Hall, our sister was among the charter members, and from that hour she continued to grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord; always at post of duty; one of those who shone brighter and brighter. She died as all others do, just as she had lived. The writer was with her often during her illness, conversed with her and broke the loaf with her, and from the first to the last her faith never failed her for a moment; and as she passed hence without a murmur we mentally glorified God for such faith, and as we stood around the casket we tried to realize the grandeur of a life hid with Christ in God.
Sister Brady leaves a husband and two children and a dear, aged Christian mother, and oh! How tenderly that mother's hands ministered to Maggie's every wish. "Do not weep, dear mother," said she, "it will be just a little while and you will come to me again." Her two children are worthy members of the church, led thither by a dear mother's Christian example. The sermon was from Tim, IV, 7, 8.

Notes: The daughter of John and Charlotte Blair Letterman, in 1867 Maggie married Sylvester Wesley Brady, son of James Christian and Mary Locke Brady. They had four children: Mary (died in infancy), Venie (died at 13), Emma Pulista who married George Gilbert Hickoff, and George Otis who married Fannie Blair. George, who was married four times, relocated to Colorado where he owned a bicycle shop for many years.
There is disagreement between the age in the newspaper memorial and on the tombstone. Since the age in years on the tombstone is incorrect (based on census data, the date of birth is computed based on the newspaper memorial).
