Chalma Hope Gilstrap Whitmire, 63, wife of Furman Whitmire passed from this life Saturday, October 30, 2010.

Mrs. Whitmire was born in Greenville, a daughter of the late Lloyd W. and Pearline Winchester Gilstrap. She was formerly employed with Burlington Industries and was a member of Secona Baptist Church where she taught the Sunshine Bible Class, was a member of the choir and was active in the Women On Mission of the church.

Mrs. Whitmire was a graduate of Berea High School where she was a member of the All State High School Basketball Team as well as a graduate of Draughn's Business College.

Survivors include her husband Furman Whitmire of the home, a son Shea (Sheila) Fortescue of Pickens, a daughter Natasha (David) Bishop of Greenville, ten grandchildren, step children, Scott (Melinda) Whitmire, of Easley, Kay (Tony) Campbell of Hendersonville, NC, a sister, Janice (Bobby) Conner of Greenville and a brother, Lloyd W. (June) Gilstrap of Greenville.

Funeral services will be conducted 2 PM Tuesday in the chapel of Dillard Funeral Home with burial to follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2 PM prior to the service.

The Family is at the home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Secona Baptist Church Building Fund, 234 Secona Road, Pickens, SC 29671 or to Miracle Hill Children's Home, 117 Drummond Lane, Pickens, SC 29671.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Larry Puls and his staff at The Cancer Center, Dr. Joseph Kubiak and his staff at Palmetto Pulmonary & Critical Care Associates, and Dr. Tommy Mann and his staff.
