Layton Carroll Fitzhugh, was born in Mulenberg County, Kentucky on July 10, 1914 to his Parents; Franklin Wesley Fitzhugh and Carrie Ola "Cattie" Welborn Fitzhugh.
He was blessed with seven siblings; Duke Bowden Fitzhugh, Linnie Fitzhugh, Broadus Lehmon Fitzhugh, Nannie Evelyn Fitzhugh Johnson, Gladys Welborn Fitzhugh Newman, Mary Nell Fitzhugh Newman, and Hilda Louise Fitzhugh.
He went by Carroll, never Layton. He was a police officer with the Greenville Police Department, and a life-long farmer. He was a member of Carter Creek Missionary Baptist Church. He was very particular with his work, paying close attention to detail, and quality. He was tall, about 6' 2", and wore glasses. he was thin, and always clean shaven. Most importantly, he was a loving grandfather and a good man. He had an excellent memory, and a very good sense of humor. He was very literate, and was a very conservative man.
His Grandparents on his Father's side of the Family were; William Butler Fitzhugh and Susan Mahala King Fitzhugh, and his Grandparents on his Mother's side of the Family were; William Thomas Welborn and Hannah Caroline Marion Welborn.
He was married two times, his first wife was Lessie Mae Epley Fitzhugh and his second Wife was; Bessie Lorene Wilkins Fitzhugh and they married on February 1, 1965.
He was the father of 8 children with, Lessie Mae Fitzhugh. Their names are: Nancy Fitzhugh Majors, Frank Fitzhugh, Betty Fitzhugh Nelson, Larry Fitzhugh, JoAnn Fitzhugh ??,Donnie Fitzhugh, Sarah Jane Fitzhugh McIntosh, and Lana Fitzhugh Loy.
