To CLARIFY this ancestor's given name, absolutely NONE of his records in Halifax County, Virginia show it other than WILLIAM. There are NO records with what many databases show as combinations of these attached to William "Ranch, George or Wiley".

This William Tune was the son of Traverse and Frances Tune of Halifax County, Virginia. [He was NOT the son of Milly Daniel and husband James Toone of Mecklenburg County, Virginia, an entirely different couple from Traverse and Frances Tune of Halifax County, Virginia. Sadly, as a novice researcher, I gave this misinformation to the Halifax Historical Society for their heritage book. After more extensive research in both Halifax & Mecklenburg counties, the mistake that I duplicated was discovered in prime source court documents for both couples. My mistake in believing what was online back then without doing the work necessary to validate it.]

He married Lurana Scurlock, daughter of Thomas & Judith Ferguson Scurlock, on September 26, 1803 in Halifax County, Virginia. They had these 12 known children: Demarcus(Mark); Sarah Tune Connolly; Mary H. Tune Nance; Joshua; Thomas H. Tune; William S.; Kester T.; Judith Tune Hickman; Jonathan; Wiley T.; David T.; and Elizabeth F. Tune McAdams.

William died sometime after the 1830 census and March 1831 when his estate was ordered to be inventoried.

"To the worshipful Court of Halifax County in Chancery setting humbly complaining thereunto your worships your Orators and Oratrices Meredith Conally and Sally his wife, Polley Tune, Joshua Tune, Thomas Tune, William S. Tune, Kester T. Tune, Judith Tune, Jonathan Tune, Willie Tune, David Tune and Elizabeth Tune; which said Thomas, William S., Kester T., Judith, Jonathan, Willie, David & Elizabeth are infants and sue by their next friend the said Meredith Conally: that William Tune late of the County of Halifax aforesaid has departed this life intestate, seised of a tract or parcel of land containing about two hundred acres, some slaves and other personal estate: That your Orators and Oratrices and a certain Demarcus Tune are the children, heirs and distributees of the said decedent, who left also a widow Lurana Tune surviving him."

After his death William's land and property was sold and his widow and children left Virginia for Tennessee where they lived out the rest of their lives.

Y-DNA testing done in June 2017 has now shown a match with a descendant of a Toone family from Leicestershire, England & a 4th g. grandson of William Tune & wife Lurana Scurlock Tune.

May you rest in peace.
