Stephen, born in Buckingham, Canada, was 22 years of age and working as a lumberman in Iron Mountain when he married Grace Holmes, 18, of Quinnesec, who was employed as a teacher. Grace was born in Dundee, Wisconsin.

Stephen was the son of John & Ann (Freeman) Butler.
Rudolph Th. Miller officiated the ceremony on July 27, 1894 in Iron Mountain, Dickinson, Michigan.

Attendents were Edwyne & Peter Patient, both of Iron Mountain.

J.S. Butler, [Stephen James], 71, long identified with the lumbering industry in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, died at 11:30 Saturday night at home,, 1123 South Stephenson Avenue, from a heart ailment from which he suffered for some time.

Born in Buckingham, Canada, he came to Iron Mountain when he was 21 & had lived here 50 years.

He leaves his widow, a daughter. A daughter, Mrs. W.H. Hooper, Interlochen, Mich.; 2 brothers, Edward & Thomas, Canada; 4 grandchildren & 2 great-grandchildren.

Burial will be in Cemetery Park.
