Monday morning, March 17, 1924 at seven o'clock, after an illness of several weeks, Mrs. Alonzo Cobb passed away at the Madison General Hospital, at the age of 55 years, 3 months, and 24 days. The news of her death came as a sudden shock to the family and community, for her condition on the day previous seemed to indicate improvement and hopes of her recovery were brighter.

The demands upon her remarkable vitality, however, were too great and the "silver cord" was broken. Martha Bell Babcock was born in this village on November 25, 1868 and in the home which has been hers throughout her whole life.

She was the daughter of Casper Rouse Babock and Sarah E. Jones Babcock, both of whom have preceded her in death. Two sisters, Adelaide and Ruth have also passed on before her.

She was united in marriage to Alonzo Cobb on April 7, 1887 and they began housekeeping in the home that has been theirs ever since. Two children blessed this union, both of whom reside here, Dr. C. A. Cobb and Dr. L. B. Cobb. These with the husband and father are left to cherish her memory. She is also survived by one sister, Mrs. R. E. Hayner of this village. As a lifelong resident of Sun Prairie, Mrs. Cobb gathered around her a large circle of friends who deeply deplore her death.

She was a member of the Congregational Church and for a number of years, a member of the church choir. She was also a charter member of Twentieth Chapter O.E.S. The great bank of flowers that have come into her late home are silent tokens of the love and esteem of many friends. Funeral services were held this afternoon at 3 o'clock in the family home. Rev. C. W. Stark of Earlville, IA and a former pastor of the Congregational Church here, was the officiating clergyman.

Interment was made in the family lot in the village cemetery, with the impressive Eastern Star services at the grave, conducted by the local Chapter. The relatives and friends from out of town who attended the funeral are Mrs. Alanson Cobb of Mitchell, SD, A. H. Cobb of Jackson, MI, Leslie Cobb of Kalamazoo, MI, Mrs. Myrtle Baxter Howe of Oconomowoc, Mrs. Ella Martinean of Marinette, B. B. Cobb and family and Earl Cobb and family of DeForest, Louis Schulting of Delafield, Mrs. Dr. Oviatt of Columbus, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Hasewell of Windsor, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Halverson of Madison, Rev. H. A. Miner Clayton Haswell, Harvey Thompson, Mr. and Mrs. C. B. Hayden, Mrs. L. L. Gibbons, Mr. and Mrs. F. D. Fitch, Mr. and Guy Peckham, Mr. and Mrs. Tulley, Mr. and Mrs. S. Good, Ray Maloney, Mrs. J. McElroy, Mrs. Monroe Kanouse, all of Madison, Mrs. L. Leuenberger and Mrs. Irvin Johnson of DeForest, Mr. and Mrs. H. Huston of Cottage Grove, and Mrs. E. Norton and Mrs. Claude Eldred of Madison.
