Dennis was born on Nov. 28, 1944, in Nett Lake, the son of Louis and Helen (Porter) Drift. After finishing school, he enlisted in the Navy aboard the USS Kittyhawk and served honorably during the Vietnam War, receiving the Vietnam Service medal.
On Oct. 1, 1983, he was united in marriage to his sweetheart, Joan Shirley Quaderer, in Minneapolis, and recently celebrated 27 years of marriage. Dennis went to mechanic's school, and later worked for Mystic Lake Casino for 15 years as a blackjack dealer.
Dennis enjoyed poker, watching all sports, especially the Vikings. He loved spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Joan; six daughters, Laurie, Lisa, Alison, Camille, Sherri and Denise; one son, Randy; many grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Wendell, Ernest, Clarence and Carroll; and two sisters, Barbara and Dolly.
Visitation will begin on Sunday at the Nett Lake Community Center from 5 p.m. to the 10 a.m. tribal rites ceremony on Monday. Burial will be in Bois Forte Cemetery. Range Funeral Home of Virginia is in charge of the arrangements.
