MARGARET (BROWN) CLIFF, age 89 of Waseca died on Thursday, April 29, 2010 at her residence in Waseca.

Margaret Marion Brown Cliff, the first of three daughters of Rodney George and Vera Jeanette (Larson) Brown was born on February 27, 1921 in Waseca, Minnesota. She was baptized on April 20, 1921 by her uncle, the Reverend Levi Roseland and confirmed in the First English Lutheran Church on May 17, 1936 by the Reverend Iver Ramseth.

Margaret attended school in Waseca where she played oboe in the band and orchestra, sang in the glee club and wrote for the school paper while also doing all of the bookwork for her father's business. She graduated in 1939 as salutatorian of her class. She went on to attend Mankato Teacher's College (now Mankato State University) and the Minnesota School of Business. After her schooling was finished, she was employed as a secretary in the main office of the Red Owl Stores in Minneapolis and she also became the treasurer of the company's credit union.

While still in school she met her husband to be – Thomas Keeley Cliff the son of McKinley and Frances Cliff of Lake City, Minnesota. They were married on February 7, 1943 at the home of her parents in Waseca. At the close of WWII they returned to Waseca where Margaret's father asked the couple to become partners in R.G. Brown Electric Co. This was to be their life for the next 52 years until Tom's death. While they anticipated that their two sons would take over the business, this was not to be as both sons preceded their father in death.

Margaret was a member of Waseca's Lakeside Club. She and Tom were avid golfers. Many vacations were taken with their golf clubs in hand. Activities such as golfing, bowling and skiing with friends made for many hours of enjoyment.

Margaret is survived by her daughter, Barbara Cliff (Roberts) Mentzer of San Antonio, TX; two daughters-in-law, Barbara Cliff and JoAnn (Cliff) Earle of Waseca; 6 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and her sister, Betty Sheeran of Seattle, WA. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband – Tom, two sons– Thomas Jr. (see Memorial #8188400) and Richard (see Memorial #8188398), one great-grandson – Trae Daniel Peterson, and her sister – Bonnie (Mae) Brown (see Memorial #96542803).

Visitation will be held at Kinder-Dennis Home for Funerals in Waseca on Monday, May 3, 2010 from 4-7 PM and continue on Tuesday, one hour before services at the church.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 4, 2010 at 11:00 AM at Grace Lutheran Church in Waseca with Rev. Roger Haug officiating. Burial will follow at Woodville Cemetery in Waseca.
