Mrs. Tirzah Farr Gay, 94, of 2121 Adams, one of the first three children born to L.D.S. settlers in Ogden, and widow of John Franklin Gay, died at her home Wednesday at seven-thirty p.m. of causes incident to age.
She was the daughter of Ogden's first mayor, Lorin Farr, and an aunt of George Albert Smith, president of the L.D.S. church. Except for a few months when she moved south with her parents, she had resided her entire life in Ogden.
Mrs. Gay was born in Ogden, May 3 1852, a daughter of Lorin and Nancy Chase Farr. On Jan. 19, 1869, she was married to Mr. Gay in the Salt Lake Endowment house. He died in Ogden several years ago.
In the L.D.S. church, she had been a Relief society teacher for many years and was a charter member of Camp G, Daughters of Utah Pioneers. she was the mother of nine sons and daughters, six of whom survive. They are; Del and L. Eugene Gay and Mrs. Etta G. Shupe, Ogden; Mrs. Fera Decker and Mrs. Nicholas G. Smith, Salt Lake City; Mrs. William J. Salmon, San Francisco. There are 17 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, a great-great grandchild,a nd the following brothers and sisters; John and Asael Farr, Mrs. Laura Harris and Mrs. Elnora Pardoe, Ogden; Mrs. Rachel Packard, Los Angeles; Willard Farr, Arizona, and Mrs. Mamie Driver, San Diego, Calif.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at one p.m. in the L.D.S. Fourth ward chapel by Bishop E.W. Watkins. Burial will be in Ogden city cemetery, directed by the mortuary, Twenty-fourth at Adams.
