Brought his family to Lindale, Smith Co., Texas in 1879. He added other children to his family begun in South Carolina. A Christian man, farmer, honest and hard working. He taught his children a love for God and Country. A respected citizen of his adopted state and community. His wife was Amelia Ann Phillips of South Carolina. (Perry Graham) ∼You will note a different date of death than the one on James A. Graham's monument. When I first started this research, I thought the cemetery was the best place for getting birth & death dates. WRONG! I am collaborating with two 2nd cousins who are certain that the date on the monument is wrong. 1. James A.Graham is on the 1930 Census living with his daughter, Sally Betty Graham Evans. 2. His death date is not listed in TEXAS DEATHS or SS DEATHS. 3. PRESTON GRAHAM,living grandson,in his 80's remebers going to the funeral at age 4. I recently went to the Tyler Public Library and looked at some micro film and discovered James A. "Grayham" d.25 May 1930. Preston Grayham states that he is sure that is right because they used to spell their name with a "Y". The Census was enumerated in April of 1930 and Preston remembers that Gandpa Graham was sick last time he visited Grandma Evans (Sally Betty). (Geneaddict)
