GROVE, Okla. — Robert J. Baird, 78, Grove, formerly of Joplin, Mo., died at 2:15 p.m. Tuesday, May 27, 1997, at St. John's Regional Medical Center, Joplin, after an eight-week illness.
Mr. Baird was born Jan. 10, 1919, at Richmond, Ind. He attended Richmond schools.
He had lived since 1981 in Grove.
He lived from 1949 to 1981 at Joplin, where he owned and operated the former Baird Photography Studio at Fourth and Main streets and from 1949 to 1981 in the Frisco Building. He was a contributing photographer for The Joplin Globe and the Joplin Police Department.
After his retirement in 1981, he managed Lee's Resort until 1986 at Grove.
He was a World War II Army Air Corps veteran who served in the Pacific.
He was a charter member of Joplin Elks Lodge No. 501. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, the Elks Lodge and Moose Lodge No. 2033, where he was in charge of bingo, all of Grove.
He married Helen R. Cooper Giger on April 26, 1952, at Eureka Springs, Ark. She survives.
Other survivors include a son, Robert Baird Jr., Muskogee, Okla.; a daughter, Sharon Gericke, Moss Beach, Calif.; a stepson, John Giger, Grove; a sister, Maxine Reynolds, Fountain City, Ind.; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery, Joplin.
The Rev. J.K. Wright will officiate.
Contributions may be made to the Moose Heart Fund or a charity of the donor's choice.
Arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin.
