AT REST.

Isaac Beeson, the subject of this brief sketch, was born in the state of North Carolina in 1801. He came to Johnson county, in this state, in 1820, and in 1821 settled on the farm where he lived until his death, March 29th 1884, in the 83rd year of his age.

I believe that I knew Isaac Beeson as well as I knew any man of his time and I never knew him to do a dishonorable thing. I don’t believe he ever tried to take the advantage of anyone. During his lifetime he was the owner of quite a large amount of property and was always generous and obliging to the poor and the needy.

When the war broke out he had three sons old enough to do military services, and these all, with their cousin who was making his home with the deceased, volunteered. James, the youngest, died in Hospital, in Nashville, Tenn., in the summer of ’63. William, the second son, was killed at Allatoona Pass Ga; in the summer of ’64, and the cousin was killed in the Battle of Chancellorsville, Va., in the spring of ’65. Isaac Beeson outlived all the early settlers in his neighborhood, with the exception of the Rev. Thomas Shipp who moved away and settled in Morristown, Shelby Co., some twenty-five years since.

He leaves a family of seven grown children, five sons and two daughters.

His funeral was preached yesterday at the Methodist Church at Jollity, by Rev. Lee, of Edinburg, to a large audience and the remains were buried in the Brockman Cemetery.
