Le Mars Globe-Post - Sunday, December 24th, 1905 - Mapleton, IA. , Dec. 21 - With his chest crushed to a pulp, probably by the tramping of cattle , K. Kueny, a prominent farmer near this place, was found dead in his corn field about a mile from his house at 11 o'clock last night by a party of fifty men who had been searching for him for twenty hours.
Kueny had left home late Tuesday evening to search for a lost cow and as he did not return late in the afternoon his family became worried and notified neighbors to aid in the search. These men did not cease looking for Kueny until his body was found in the field. The ground nearby was bloody, and it is the general supposition that the man was killed by being gored by a bull or else trampled by the herd of cattle as he had salt for the cow he was seeking. The body was badly mutilated, but there is no doubt that Kueny, being aged, came to his death by an accident.
Kueny was a wealthy farmer and had lived in this part of the state many years. He leaves a large family of boys who are living in this county. He was 75 years of age, but vigorous and hale. The dead man was the aged father of Dr. C.F. Kueny of LeMars.
He leaves an aged wife, one daughter, five sons, whose names are Mrs. H. Phillips, of Onawa; Dr. W.A. Kueny, of Topeka, Kansas; F.M. Kueny, of Potosi, Wis., a druggist; J.W. Kueny, a farmer, near Mapleton; H. Kueny, of Mapleton; and Dr. C.F. Kueny, of LeMars.
The funeral will be held at Danbury on Saturday and all the children will attend. Dr. C.F. Kueny left at once to join the bereaved family. On account of sickness in the family, Mrs. Kueny could not go.
