Mrs. Burns was born and raised in Carroll County, graduated from Mt. Zion High School, attended Berry College and Georgia State, each for one year. She married Bill Burns in 1948 and raised her family in College Park, Georgia. Earlier in her career, she was a store manager for Sears Roebuck Catalog for 6 years and the United States Fish and Wildlife Service, retiring after 20 years of service. Jean and Bill were married for 48 years, returning to Carroll County in 1980. She was a member of the Bowdon Baptist Church.
Survivors include her son, Larry D. Burns and his wife, Ann Roberts Burns of Atlanta, daughter, Delores B. Register and husband, Wayne D. Register of Douglasville, grandson, Brett Andrew Burns, granddaughter, Caroline Marie Burns, step-grandsons, Michael Register and wife, Patti Register, Patrick Register and wife, Michelle; step great grandchildren, Leah Register, Colin Register and long time special friend, Mr. John Wright. She was preceded in death by her husband, William P. Burns; parents, Albert and Ura Ashmore and brother, Max (Dick) Ashmore.
Funeral service will be Wednesday, October 27 at 11 a.m. at the chapel of Almon Funeral Home with Dr. Ron Huggins and Rev. Shirley Wright officiating.
Pallbearers will be Michael Ashmore, Jeff Burns, Doug Burns, Michael Register, Brett Burns and Stephen Kinney.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 5 p.m. until 7:30 p.m.
Interment will be in the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery.
