John W. Glogowski Sr., 88, of 12th Street died Wednesday at home after a long illness.
He was born in Pennsylvania and lived in South Troy most of his life, moving to Watervliet 15 years ago.
Mr. Glogowski worked at Portec Steel Co. in Troy as a crane operator, retiring 25 years ago. He had also worked at the General Electric Co. in Schenectady, the Watervliet Arsenal and the Railway Express Trucking Co.
He was a communicant of Sacred Heart of Mary Church and a former communicant of St. Michael's Church, Troy.
An avid outdoorsman, he was a member of many area rod and gun clubs.
He was the widower of Rebecca J. Henry Glogowski .
Survivors include four sons, John M . Glogowski Jr. of Watervliet, Robert J. Glogowski of Poestenkill, Michael J. Glogowski of North Plainfield, N.J., and Stanley J. Glogowski of Center Harbor, N.H.; four daughters, Mary Gavitt and Rebecca Ciraulo, both of Troy, Elizabeth Heffner of Averill Park and Isabel Glogowski of Watervliet; six brothers, Walter Glogowski and Stanley Glogowski , both of Melrose, Michael Glogowski of Cohoes, Edward Glogowski of Wynantskill, Frank Glogowski of Rensselaer and Charles Glogowski of Saratoga Springs; two sisters, Ann Schofield of Troy and Rose Madlin of Watervliet; and 24 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 9:15 a. m . Saturday in the Parker Brothers Memorial, 2013 Broadway, and at 10 a. m . in Sacred Heart of Mary Church. Burial will be in St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands.
Calling hours will be 5-8 p. m . today in the funeral home.
Contributions may be made to St. Peter's Hospice of Rensselaer County, Troy.
