Alvin Ellsworth Adamson, 54, of the 5500 block of Sandpiper Lane, went to be with the Lord on June 14, 2001, at 12:06 p.m. in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.

Mr. Adamson was born Oct. 16, 1946 in Portsmouth to the late Mary Elizabeth and the Rev. Benjamin Adamson Sr. Left to cherish his memory is his devoted and loving wife of 34 years, Rita Adamson; four loving daughters, Shawanda Adamson of Norfolk, Chelsea Turner of Chesapeake, Lynetta Adamson-Cuffee and husband, Anthony, of Virginia Beach and Deborah Stanley of Portsmouth; six devoted brothers, Dr. Benjamin Adamson Jr. of Portsmouth, Elder James Adamson and wife, Janice, of Dale City, Va., the Rev. Caesar Adamson and wife, Patricia, of Las Vegas, Nev., Dennis Lee Adamson and Carlton Adamson, both of Portsmouth and Steven Adamson of Dale City; three loving sisters, Beryl Edmonds and husband, Paul, of Chesapeake, Freda Young of Appomatox County and Vanessa Smith and husband, David, of Hampton; eight loving grandchildren, Alvin Adamson, John Paige, Mercedes Cuffee, Chelisa Turner, Robert Stephenson III, JaKira Turner, Te'Rita Turner and Shylia Stephenson; a devoted father- and mother-in-law, Edward and Bessie White; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Mr. Adamson was a retired veteran of the USMC and served in the Vietnam War. He received three Purple Hearts. He was a charter member of Trinity Temple Church where he was an acting deacon, a member of the choir and a trustee. He was a member of the Washington Lodge of Masons, the Elks and the American Legion Post 190. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather.

A homegoing service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Trinity Temple Church, 2430 Graham St., Portsmouth, by Dr. Benjamin Adamson Jr. The burial will take place at Lincoln Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 7 to 8 p.m. today and other times at 3164 Glastonbury Drive, Virginia Beach. Family will assemble at 12:30 p.m. at Rogers Funeral Home, Portsmouth, for the procession. Rogers Funeral Home, Portsmouth, is in charge.
