MRS. MARIE STUMBAUGH


LAKE CITY - Funeral services for Mrs. Marie Stumbaugh, 86, were held Monday, Dec. 21, at 10 a.m. at the Huffman Memorial Chapel in Lake City. Rev. William Green, pastor of the Trinity Methodist Church officiated. Mrs. William Green sang, accompanied by Mrs. Richard Johnston. Graveside services were held at 2:30 p.m. Monday at Goshen cemetery, Lucas, Ia.


Mrs. Stumbaugh, whose maiden name was Marie Madeline Batek, was born July 22, 1873 in Prague, Czechoslovakia to William and Agnes Batek. He had five brothers and one sister. She received her education in Prague. In 1891 she came to the United States. She taught French in St. Louis, Mo., and later moved to Des Moines.


On October 16, 1900 she was married to Dr. W. D. Stumbaugh, M.D., at Lacona, Ia., where she made her home until the later years when she visited in the homes of her daughters in Des Moines and Lake City. Recenty she had been living at the Tryon Nursing Home in Carroll where she died Saturday, Dec. 19.


Her husband preceded her in death.


She is survived by her two daughters, Mrs. William Fell (Vlasta), Lake City, and Mrs. C. W. McKinley (Sylvia), Des Moines; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
