NOTE: [The 1763 birth record is questionable based on Revolutionary War Pension file.]

Some descendants claim that this William Harper's middle name is Turner perhaps because a son was named William Turner. No document found has shown a middle name; therefore, a middle name can not be proven so it is not used on this profile. Son of Edward and Ann (Turner) Harper. His birth date is also questionable among descendants. Some descendants claim this birth record in the Albemarle Parish Register for Sussex County, Virginia:
William Harper was born in Sussex Co., VA on April 22, 1763 and Christened June 5, 1763, Albemarle Parish, Sussex Co., VA. Gdpts.: Robert Winfield, Peter Greene and Anne Winfield.

He could not have been born in 1763 as he would have only been age 15 in 1778. The 1830 Pike County Census enumerated him age 70 to 79. The 1840 Pike County Census enumerated him as a pensioner age 88.

William Harper married Sarah Jane "Jincy" (Bonner) Harper ~ married December 21, 1782, Sussex County, Virginia.

Contrary to descendant's claims this William Harper served in Capt. Uriah Goodwin's Co., of the 3rd. South Carolina Regiment, commanded by Col. William Thompson from March 1777 to July 1779, the Revolutionary War Pension file of WILLIAM HARPER of Pike County dated 19 May 1841 shows interrogatories from William stating:
"That he volunteered in Sussex County, Virginia some time during the year 1778 under Capt. Harvell of the Militia of Sussex County."
" I was born in Sussex County Virginia as I was informed by my parents in the year 1758 the month and day I have no means of knowing."
"I have lived in Hancock, Jasper, and Pike County Georgia & previous thereto I lived in Virginia and North Carolina."
