Nancy was the daughter of William Foard/Ford, Jr. and Nancy Lively, and the granddaughter of Joseph Lively, Sr. and Frances Maddy. She was born, raised, and died in Monroe County, VA/WV, and she married Harmon G. Walters there; their marriage bond was dated 08 May 1848, and her father was a surety on the bond.

They lived in Monroe Co., and were blessed with six children (in birth order): William P., Martha A. Sarah Jane, Elbert Fletcher, Emily V. and Mary V. The latter was the only child born after Harmon returned home from the Civil War (see his memorial for details). He reported Mary's birth in 1867, then he and Nancy were separated or divorced by the 1870 census -- she was still in Monroe with their six children, and he was living in Gallia Co., OH with another Nancy and their child (they married in 1887)... Harmon having two wives named Nancy has led to many confused family trees!

Nancy was the head of household in Monroe in the 1870 & 1880 censuses. She was listed as Divorced in 1880, and she never remarried, so she raised their six children alone until they moved out on their own (all by 1900). By 1880, her oldest child (William) had moved out and was living next to Harmon in Gallia Co., which shows that Harmon didn't sever all ties to his first family when he left Monroe.

Nancy died of Pneumonia in 1901 at the age of 71. She was listed as a Widow in the 1900 census and on her death record, but Harmon was still living in Gallia Co. -- he died two years later, on 08 December 1903.
