Elizabeth was the first daughter born to Janet Wilson (Cunningham) and John Gerald Marshall of Rutherglen, Lanarkshire, England.

Her mother, Janet, was known by the surname of Cunningham, as she was raised by her stepfather, Robert Burns Cunningham, who had married Elizabeth's grandmother (Ellen Gibbons) when her mother was only two years old.

Elizabeth's "Cunningham" grandparents immigrated from Scotland via Liverpool aboard the sailing vessel Cynosure, departing 30 May 1863 and arriving at the Port of New York 19 July of the same year. They had with them their 7 living children. Four others had died in Scotland, and Elizabeth's 20 year old mother had also stayed behind, as she was married and had an infant son.

As the Cunninghams reached the Salt lake Valley and worked at raising their family, it would be twelve long years before the Marshall family followed them.

Elizabeth was almost eight years old when her family finally embarked on their immigration to America. They left Scotland and boarded a steamship, The Wisconsin, which left Liverpool Harbor 16 June 1875, bound for New York.

Also aboard from this family was her father, John (35), her mother Janet (32) and Elizabeth's six siblings, John (11), Robert (9), Peter (7), Alexander (3), Ellen (2) and 5 week old Thomas. Jennie, who would have been one, had died in Scotland. The arrived at the Port of New York on 28 June - a much shorter trip than the grandparents because of the steam driven ship.

Five years later Elizabeth's family appears on the Ogden City "Third Ward" census of Weber County, Utah. A daughter, Jane, born in Utah, has been added to the family and Elizabeth is listed at about 14 years old. The census date is June the 1st & 2nd and another brother, George Henry, comes into the family four days later.

All of Elizabeth's siblings who came to America were still living in 1880, but a baby sister, Agnes, who was born at Ogden in 1878, lived only 4 months.

Another sister, Agnes Louise - named after this baby - was born at Grass Creek in Summit County, Utah in 1882, where the family finally settled near Coalville.

Elizabeth's last sibling, a sister, Sarah was also born at Grass Creek, but only lived four years.

Elizabeth 's marriage to Edwin Seamons Crowther is documented at Salt lake City, Salt Lake County on 24 May 1890. At Coalville, Summit, Utah they had a son on 2 October 1891 whom they named Earl William Crowther. He is buried at the Salt lake City Cemetery as Earl W. Crowther.

An opinion has been expressed that Elizabeth first married William Swanston Craig 1887 at Almy, Unita, Wyoming - left him, married Crowther 1890 at Salt Lake City - left him after the birth of this 1891 son, remarried Craig and started having Craig children in 1893.

Her 1st child is listed on the 14 June 1900 Coalville census, as born Oct 1891 "William E. Craig", in the household of William Craig & wife Elizabeth. It seeems strange that she would divorce "William", marry Crowther, have this son, name him Earl William and later call him "William" on the census.

This son, Earl William, is also on the 7 June 1900 Park City census as born Oct 1891, "William E. Crowther" in household of Edwin S. Crowther & wife Louisa. He is Elizabeth's 1st child.

Elizabeth either married/or remarried William Swanston Craig about 1892; they had three children beginning 1893: Sarah Agnes, Floria and Leon William.
