Husband of Violet Figgins Brooks

THE LEGAL TENDER GREENBACK - March 24, 1887
DIED- Mr. Benjamin Brooks at the residence of J. J. Barnes, his son-in-law, March 14, 1887. He was the father of nine children, seven daughters and two sons, six of whom are living, and will mourn his loss. He is gone but not forgotten. Mr. Brooks was born in Fayette County, Ohio, October 12, 1809 and was married in 1829 to Miss Violet Figgens of Toy___, Fayette County, Ohio. They moved to Davis County, Iowa in 1849 (see source above where the 1st election was held in his home in Davis Co.) where they remained until the death of his beloved wife, who died the 17th of June 1883. Since that time he visited with his children in Iowa and his daughter, Mrs. J. J. Barnes in Wahoo, Nebraska. Mr. Brooks has been a member of the M. E. Church about forty? (could be fifty) years. He lived a very devoted Christian life, and bore his cross at all times, in all places. By his request he was sent to Bloomfield, Iowa to be laid by the side of his wife where they may rest in peace. Mr. J. J. Barnes started for Bloomfield with the remains on the 15th.
