Frederick's parents were Henry Bolender (1770-1837) and his wife Anna Catharina Miller (1767-1832). Both parents died in Snyder Co. but their graves are unmarked. In 1836 Frederick entered into an agreement with Michael Wagner to care for him and his aged wife and to pay taxes and upkeep on the Wagner properties in exchange for taking possession of the properties, both real and personal, upon the deaths of the Wagners. The properties included two lots in New Berlin, Union Co., one with a house, and several other small properties.
In 1852 Frederick purchased his father-in-law's farm of 130 acres in Limestone Twp. In 1860 Frederick was elected as a County Commissioner and served one term. The family lived there until 1865 when Frederick and Sarah sold the farm and moved to Stephenson Co., Illinois where his older brothers John and Michael had lived since 1840.
