Susie was born on July 13, 1937, in Portales to Jack and Letitia (Andes) Grimes and passed away on October 24, 2010, at the family home in Portales. She attended school in Portales and had lived in Seattle, Washington, Long Beach, California, and Beeville, Texas before returning to Portales. She married Mell LaRoy Machen on May 5, 1956, in Clovis. She will be remembered as a waitress at the Sands and Portales Inn Restaurant and as a practical joker by many including her coffee friends. Susie was the type of person it seems like she new everyone. She loved doing ceramics and gardening. She loved playing games. Most of all, Susie will be remembered as a very hard worker and very dedicated to her family. She loved her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and her extended grandchildren, who were the children she helped, take care of at her daughters Day Care Center, she thought of these kids as her own.
Susie is preceded in death by her husband, Mell LaRoy Machen; her parents, and her brothers, Sam and Bill Grimes.
She is survived by her daughter, Sharita Haragan of Portales; her grandchildren Colton Haragan and Cody Machen; her great grandchildren, Brix Machen, Avery Petroski and Eric Petroski; her brother, Joe Grimes of Amarillo, TX; her sisters, Juanita Rutledge of Portales and Lila Bryant of Portales.
Cremation has taken place.
