While still living in Oregon, Sam applied for a job with the US Border Patrol and after passing their required testing, he was hired. After required training, he was then assigned to an area he knew very well in his home state of Texas in Sonora, Texas.
He and his 1st wife parted company and in 1963 he married Nina Karen Parks. They had 2 children: Samuel James and Michael George Dunn.
Later on Sam was re-assigned by the US Border Patrol to Calexico, California where the family lived for several years.
He retired from the US Border Patrol after 30 years of service and he and his wife Karen moved to Fort Gibson, Oklahoma where they had bought a lovely older farm home on property out of town.
He enjoyed visits from his kids and his grand kids and is certainly missed by all who knew him.
