Milton Leonard Earl Marth, 89, Marathon, died Saturday, Oct. 23, 2010, at Marywood Center, Wausau.

He was born April 26, 1921, in the town of Hamburg, son of the late Frank and Adella (Voigt) Marth. On Dec. 27, 1941, he married Geraldine Henrichs in Little Chicago. She preceded him in death Oct. 16, 2010.

After his marriage to Geraldine, they owned and operated a dairy farm in the town of Rib Falls, followed by a turkey farm in the town of Hamburg. The turkey farm led to the establishment of Marth Wood Shavings Supply, which just recently celebrated 52 years in business. The Marths were a hardworking couple of German descent and work ethics, with strong Christian values.

After their retirement in 1984, Milton stayed close to watch the business grow. Additional corporations were created, which include Marth Transportation, Marathon; Marth Manufacturing, Athens; and Marth Peshtigo Pellet Plant, Peshtigo. These businesses continue to be in the family. Milton and Geraldine contributed to the growth of their business not only to their family but to their valued employees.

Milton was a founding and life member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, town of Rib Falls, and also served on the church board. He enjoyed snowmobiling and was a member of the Trailmates Snowmobile Club. Other favorite pastimes included woodworking, spending time at their lake home on Lake Nokomis, and cherished time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Besides his parents and wife, Geraldine, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Michael Edward Martyn in 1997; and a sister, Eldora Degner in 2003.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2010, at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2214 Highway 107 N., Marathon. The Rev. Terry Reich will officiate. Burial will be in the St. Peter Cemetery, town of Hamburg. Friends may call from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Marathon, and again from 10 a.m. until the time of services Wednesday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in Milton's name.
