ALRIC WICKLIFFE ENDS HIS LIFE
Despondency Resulting From Ill Health Caused Suicide Near Zanesville

Alric Wickliffe, aged 36 years, a prominent farmer, residing four miles north of Zanesville, committed suicide about 9:10 o'clock Saturday morning by a bullet shot from a revolver through his right temple into his brain. Despondency on account of ill health is assigned as the reason for his act. He was found lying on his back on some hay in the barn at his home, by his youngest son, Moreland, who had gone there to ask his father concerning the time of his own departure for Ft. Wayne in the afternoon. The father was dead when the boy reached his side, about twenty minutes after the shooting.
Mr. Wickliffe had been away from the house only a few minutes, when his wife heard the revolver shot. She thought the shot a strange occurrence but paid no more attention to it. She sent the boy out to the barn twenty minutes later and he soon came back with the startling news. The coroner from Ft. Wayne was summoned and he arrived about 1 o'clock in the afternoon.
Surviving Mr. Wickliffe are the wife, two sons, a daughter, and the mother, Mrs. Sarah Highlen, of Markle. He was a lifelong resident of Zanesville and vicinity and was well known. He had been a sufferer from and a year ago one of his lungs was removed. He was the owner of a large amount of land around Zanesville, and was considered wealthy.
