Obituary from the Los Angeles Times Saturday, May 4th, 1974

HARNISH, John, a Southern California resident since 1904 and one of the major early developers of Los Angeles. Passed away Sunday in Palm Springs age 85. As vice president and general manager of the Austin Co., Industrial Engineer and later forming the Harnish Co., Consulting Engineers, he is thus remembered for having designed and built Warner Bros. Christie Bros, and Republic Film Studios, NBC TV studios and was surpervising engineer for MGM studios. Mr. Harnish was also the single largest donor to the Claremont Colleges and his extensive library on early California history is housed in a special collection in Honnold Library. He is survived by his sister, Jeanna Hall of Seal Beach, a daughter, Christina McKinley of Balboa Island, a step-daughter, Evelyn Wright of La Mesa, and 6 grandchildren.
At his request, no services will be held. However, memorial contributions may be made to either the Lucille Lyman Memorial Fund P.O. Box 1183, Palm Desert, or the Carrie McKinley Memorial Fund, Hoag Hospital in Newport Beach.
