She was the daughter of Edgar Dewitt Ferguson and Martha Ophelia Shafer, sister to Lorene Harris, Nettie Kelley, Bill, Mildred McGough, Minnie Rogers, Francis Carr, Buck, Nell Vaughn and John Ed.
She married Richard Elmore "Elmo" Dawson on 8-11-1949 in Houston, Tx, and was the mother of Doug, Pat, Sally Cossin, Mike, Janet Pinion, Walter and Donald. And her pride and joy, her grandchildren: Doug's; Shannon Hestand, Amy Procell and Carrie Dawson. Sally's; Patty Risinger, Sheila Blum, Rhonda Smith, Laura Thompson, Weldon Smith, Linda Cossin, Eric Reedy, Steven Cossin. Janet's; Lisa Pinion, Terrie Pinion,Opel Bree, Shauna White, T.J.White, Alyssa White, 32 great-grandkids and 9 great-great-grandbabies. Best Friends, Martha Kelley Drake, Nita Gay Risinger, Tootsie Gay Parrish Dowell and Lucille Cossin. And her many nieces and nephews and their families, who were all fond of their Aunt Mac. She always had room at her kitchen table for Coffee Friends & Neighbors. Maxine was known for her fiesty personality. She loved to pick and play, and could be as onery as all get out. She enjoyed her honky tonk music, dancing and cooking her famous Hamburger Steaks, Beans, Fried Potatoes with onions, cornbread, and Sun Tea, and for desert Banana Pudding. She was an avid collector of Knick Knacks, Stuffed Animals and Baby Dolls, and you'd best know not to touch them, lest you wanted to lose a hand. She had a green thumb, could grow any house plant, a skill she passed down to many of us. She was a proud woman, who didn't let the hard times get her down, she always found a way to succeed. She'll long be remembered by many for her spunky, picking n grinning ways, and making the funny faces. There were many angels to welcome her home, especially Tom Cossin, her son-n-law. Love to you Granny Mac, from everyone of us.
Family will receive friends on Monday, October 11, 2010 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Dixon Funeral Home in Brazoria.
