On Sept 29, 1934 he married Elizabeth Leland Hintz in DeMoines Iowa. He graduated University of Iowa with his MD and received a fellowship diploma for three years' service at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN. In World War II as a reserve officer he was called to service at Fitzsimmons General Hospital in Denver in August 1942. He also served at various stations in the Pacific theatre from August 1943 to November 1945. Dr. Haines was in the Luzon Campaign with General MacArthur's forces, and thence to Japan.
