PRAIRIE - Vera A. Poss, 94, died Sunday, Aug. 13, 2006, at the North Miss. Medical Center in West Point. She was born Sept. 15, 1911, in Fayette, Alabama to Mary Jane Fowler and James Monroe Barnes. She was a homemaker and a member of the Baptist Church but had attended Lawson Church of Christ.

Services will be at 10 a.m. today at the Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church in Una with the Rev. Bobby Joe Poss officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery. Calvert Funeral Home of West Point is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include two daughter, Carolyn Crowley of Prairie and Barbara Humber of West Point; two sons, John Edward Poss Jr. of Ocean Springs and Ellis Poss of West Point; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Eula Bridger of Prairie.

She was preceded in death by her husband on Sept. 19, 1984; she married him on June 6, 1931; and one son, Coleman Poss.

Pallbearers will be George Sawtelle, Mike Poss, Antonio Pierce, Tony Lippincott, Ashley Poss, Corey Poss, Jordan McVey and Gentry Thompson. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Edmund A. Miller Jr. and her nephews.

Memorials may be made to Pleasant Grove Cemetery Fund c/o Mr. Gene Grubbs, 8720 Baker Road, Prairie, MS 39756.

The body will lie in state at the church today from 9 a.m. until service time.
