Jeremiah was the son of Daniel and Hannah (Harter) Diehl. Jeremiah and Mary Jane were married on Nov 12, 1874 in Akron, Summit, OH. They had no children.

He died after a brief illness at his home in Sunfield Township, near Vermontville, MI. Durring the Civil War,he served three years as a soldier, enlisting August 22, 1862, in the 115th Ohio Volunteer Infantry. In 1877 he and Mary Jane moved to a farm in Chester Township, MI. They resided here two years, then came to Vermontville, Twp., where they lived on their farm nineteen years. Their next home was in Sunfield Twp. Jeremiah was a member of the Vermontville lodge of F. & A. M., Eastern Star, the Sunfield lodge of I. O. O. F and the Rebekahs. He was also a member of Edward Dwight Post, G.A.R. He was a member of the Vermontville Congregational Church. Surviving besides his widow, one brother and four half sisters, all of whom, except one half sister, lived in Ohio.
